Carlotta Brentan
Carlotta Brentan is an Italian-born, New York-based theater and audio producer, as well as an award-winning audiobook narrator, voice and stage actor. As Co-Founder and Creative Director of Fabler, Carlotta combines her international producing expertise with her acclaimed narration and voice work, to produce and publish the highest caliber of audio content.
Fully bilingual, Carlotta can frequently be found behind the mic, where she specializes in commercials - she’s currently the voice of Peroni Nastro Azzurro’s North American campaign - and narrative voiceovers in both English and Italian. Her audiobook narration has been awarded multiple Earphones Awards by Audiofile magazine for “truly exceptional titles that excel in narrative voice and style, characterizations, suitability to audio, and enhancement of the text.”
As a narrator, she has worked with top US publishers including Penguin Random House, Harper Collins and Audible Studios, narrating high profile titles including New York Times bestseller The Secrets We Kept by Lara Prescott, which was one of Paste magazine “Best Audiobooks of September 2019” and one of Audible’s Best Selling audiobooks at the same time. She also narrated Italian screenwriter and author Chiara Barzini’s debut novel Things That Happened Before The Earthquake, featured in the 2017 New York Times’ Summer Reading list. Her narration of debut thriller Her Daughter’s Mother by Daniela Petrova earned her a 2019 Earphones award, and upcoming releases include The Star-Crossed Sisters of Tuscany by #1 international best-selling author Lori Nelson Spielman, and A Ceiling Made of Eggshells by New York Times bestselling and Newbery Honor-winning author Gail Carson Levine.
In much of her work, Carlotta seamlessly combines her Italian background with her American training, bridging the gap between the two countries in terms of the content and style of her work. Carlotta and her work have been highlighted in numerous publications, including some of her native Italy's most prestigious outlets (Il Corriere della Sera, Il Sole24Ore, and Panorama among them.)
In theater, Carlotta has been part of KIT - Kairos Italy Theater, New York’s foremost Italian theater company, since 2011. Aside from regularly performing with the company in New York, she has toured extensively with KIT, performing at the Italian Embassy in Washington D.C., at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, at Vassar College and multiple institutions in the North East. She is the Executive Producer of KIT's In Scena! Italian Theater Festival, the first Italian festival to take place in all five boroughs of New York City since 2013. She is slated to direct KIT’s production of Tobia Rossi’s award-winning play Hide & Seek at the New York institution The Tank in spring 2020.
Acting highlights include collaborating with some of New York’s top directors and venues, including originating roles in the world premieres of Paolo Bignami’s The Journey I Never Made (Kairos Italy Theater at historic theater Cherry Lane), Erik Ehn’s Clover at legendary New York venue LaMaMa ETC (dir. Glory Kadigan) and Frank J. Avella’s Lured, which Carlotta also produced and co-directed to sold out audiences at New York’s Theater for the New City in 2018, and later remounted in Rome at Off Off Theater in 2019.
Carlotta is also a published and produced translator, with numerous full-length plays to her name, including works by renowned award-winning Italian playwrights such as Mario Fratti, Alberto Bassetti, Paolo Bignami, Tobia Rossi and Emanuele Aldrovandi.
A graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and Academy Company in New York, Carlotta subsequently trained in advanced Meisner technique for two years with Andrea Dantas, and honed her narration skills with Grammy award-winning producer - and industry legend - Paul Ruben.
